Stakeholder dialogue

« Back to Glossary Index

Stakeholder dialogue (often synonymous with stakeholder management) refers to communication with the stakeholders of an organisation with the aim of understanding and taking into account their interests and needs. It therefore differs significantly from marketing (especially conventional marketing approaches), where communication is conducted with specific stakeholder groups with the aim of sales or image management. Stakeholder dialogues are decisive instruments for the sustainable development of a company. Stakeholders can be divided into different groups. The most important questions for consideration and subsequent communication with stakeholders are usually

  • Are stakeholders negatively affected by the company's activities?
  • Are they positively affected by the company's activities?
  • How much influence does the company have on them?
  • How great is their influence on the company?

Typical stakeholders are

  • Employees
  • Management
  • Customers
  • Suppliers and service providers
  • People along the product supply chain
  • Supervisory bodies
  • Shareholder (shareholder of the company)
  • Politics
  • The public
  • NGOs
