Integrated management system

« Back to Glossary Index

An integrated management system is intended to combine the various existing management systems in a company into one system. The concept arose from the fact that, from the 1980s onwards, companies often set up quality management systems in response to customer requirements and then added other systems such as environmental management systems, risk management systems and data protection management systems in the following decades. It is often not possible to summarise all management systems in one and, in particular, this is of little use for very closed subject areas. The merging of quality management systems in accordance with ISO 9001 and environmental management systems in accordance with ISO 14001 has become particularly important, as the continuous improvement required in each case can only be achieved in the long term by dovetailing the two areas.
