EU taxonomy

« Back to Glossary Index

The Taxonomy Regulation is a central component of the EU Action Plan on Sustainable Finance. The aim of the action plan is to redirect financial flows towards more sustainable activities in order to finance the transformation of the economy towards sustainability. As a standardised classification system, the taxonomy is intended to precisely define which economic activities can be declared sustainable and which conditions must be met for this. This is intended to create a standardised understanding and prevent greenwashing. Sustainable financial products and companies should thus become more of a focus for investors.
