Whitewashing

« Back to Glossary Index

Whitewashing (or "white washing") means presenting oneself as a company with a clean slate. In other words, ethically correct behaviour is emphasised or questionable (political) involvement is concealed. This can be, for example, emphasising that one works in accordance with the law and without corruption, but does not make any real effort to ensure this or to enforce ethically correct behaviour. It can also include questionable lobbying and non-transparent political influence.
