SDG

« Back to Glossary Index

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the joint objectives of the UN member states to enable sustainable development at a global environmental, social and economic level. The 17 goals with their 169 sub-goals came into force in 2016 and are the de facto successor to the Millennium Development Goals. Since then, the member states have had to transfer the objectives to national level and define targets and measures in order to contribute to the common goal.

With their 17 tangible topics, the SDGs provide many companies with concrete guidance on how they can contribute to sustainable development. More and more companies are therefore aligning their sustainability strategy or even corporate strategy with the SDGs.
