The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations for the formulation and enforcement of international labour and social standards. It defines its actions in four basic principles: Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, elimination of forced labour, abolition of child labour, prohibition of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. A total of eight so-called core labour standards (conventions) were established on this basis: Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise, Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining, Forced Labour, Abolition of Forced Labour, Equal Remuneration, Employment and Occupational Discrimination, Minimum Age, Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour.
