Human rights

« Back to Glossary Index

Human rights apply equally to all people. They are universally valid, indivisible and cannot be denied to anyone. States and companies have a duty to protect them. This means that they are directly responsible for upholding human rights. There are various internationally recognised texts that set out the different human rights, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Social and Civil Pact, the Convention on the Rights of Women and the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the ILO core labour standards.
