German sustainability strategy

« Back to Glossary Index

Against the backdrop of Agenda 21 adopted in Rio de Janeiro, a national sustainability strategy was adopted for the first time in 2002. This was fundamentally revised in 2016 in the context of the 2030 Agenda adopted in 2015 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) contained therein and adopted in 2017. In future, the political update and assessment of the sustainability strategy by the Federal Government and an indicator report by the Federal Statistical Office will be published every two years. In 2018, an international group of experts published a peer review report on German sustainability policy and the progress made in its implementation to date. The German sustainability strategy focuses on the national level of action, which is crucial for the implementation of the global sustainability goals. (www.dialog-nachhaltigkeit.de/)
