Environmental consulting generally refers to the counselling of companies or private individuals with the aim of making their actions more environmentally friendly. In the context of companies, the term technical environmental consulting is also often used, as most consultations aim to optimise technical processes in order to save resources. For the benefit of the company, this means not only conserving environmental resources but also saving money. The core topics of environmental consulting are the saving of electricity, heat, water and waste water as well as operational auxiliary materials. However, switching to in-house production of renewable energies, land utilisation and land sealing or ecologically natural wastewater disposal also play a role. Environmental management systems, some of which are set up by environmental consultancies, can be used to control and improve environmental performance.
